Members of The Raincoats, The Slits, and X-Ray Spex reunite for a multi-disciplinary celebration of the movement’s 50th anniversary.
Members of the Raincoats, the Slits, and X-Ray Spex will perform as a supergroup on October 16 at Electric Brixton. The event, titled God Save the Queens, is organized by the Up Yours! collective to mark 50 years of feminist punk. The lineup features Gina Birch, Hollie Cook, Lora Logic, and Paul Dean. The festival coincides with a new exhibit at the Museum of Youth Culture in Camden featuring archival material and artwork from the performers. Lora Logic noted the movement’s multi-dimensional nature, combining visual art, clothing, and noise. Punk historian Vivien Goldman will appear alongside Akiko Matsuura, Rhoda Dakar, and Celeste Bell. Goldman described the event as a living continuation of rebel culture. The one-night performance highlights a global lineage of women who used music to claim space and dismantle stereotypes through evolving creative expression.
