A dedicated creation support program in Gwangju funds media art development from initial concept to public archiving
Digital artists and collaborative teams now have a major institutional opportunity to develop ambitious new media projects through the Gwangju Media Art Platform (G.MAP). An institution established in Gwangju—recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts—G.MAP has launched an open call for its 2026 Digital Art Culture Lab: Project Lab.
Designed as an end-to-end support system, the Project Lab is structured as a comprehensive five-month program running from August through December 2026. The initiative is built to support artists across every stage of their workflow rather than focusing solely on finished exhibition works. Participating creators will receive structured support spanning initial idea development, technical production, public showcase, and final archiving.
To ensure participants can realize their artistic vision, G.MAP is offering creation and production grants to selected individuals and teams working within the digital art domain. The lab aims to nurture practitioners as they navigate the complexities of contemporary media art, offering a structured environment that carries creative experimentation from the drawing board all the way to documented showcase.
Comprehensive programs that fund every phase of media art production—from early ideation to final archiving—are rare. This opportunity provides digital creators with sustained institutional backing and grants inside a designated UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts.
