The riverside landmark transforms into a design destination featuring open studios, immersive sound, and craft workshops.
London’s South Bank is set to become a focal point for the city’s creative community as Oxo Tower Wharf joins the 24th edition of the London Design Festival. Running from September 12-20, 2026, the riverside creative hub is hosting a series of special demonstrations, workshops, and exhibitions designed to showcase London’s status as a global design capital.
Central to the festivities is the opportunity for visitors to engage directly with the venue’s year-round resident designer-makers. Across two floors, more than 25 creatives will open their doors to the public, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at professional studios specializing in diverse crafts such as millinery, ceramics, weaving, and leatherworking. This direct access allows attendees to not only observe the technical processes behind these high-end crafts but also to buy or commission unique pieces directly from the expert makers.
Beyond the open studios, the festival program at Oxo Tower Wharf features several high-profile installations. Highlights include 'The Pangolin Shield' installation and an immersive sound experience curated by L-Acoustics, which pushes the boundaries of how sound and design intersect. These events are part of a broader city-wide celebration that includes other major cultural milestones, such as the upcoming Es Devlin exhibition at the Design Museum and the National Gallery’s 'Art On Your Doorstep' initiative in Brentford.
The London Design Festival continues to serve as a platform for both established and emerging talent, interrogating the boundaries of design through thought-provoking collaborations. Whether through the tactile experience of a weaving workshop or the high-tech allure of immersive audio, the events at Oxo Tower Wharf represent the vibrant, multi-disciplinary nature of London’s contemporary creative scene.
This event provides local designer-makers with a platform to showcase their technical skills to a global audience while offering creative professionals networking opportunities through workshops and immersive tech installations.
