The new initiative targets film distribution and audience growth alongside production finance.
Product of Culture has launched the Culture Fund to support creators from the Global South. The media, marketing, and distribution company, which operates out of New York and Los Angeles, introduced the initiative at the first edition of the Toronto Film Festival market. The fund integrates philanthropic capital with the company's ten years of experience in audience research, cultural strategy, and marketing. Unlike traditional production finance models, this fund intervenes at critical stages of a project’s lifecycle. The objective is to provide the necessary capital to secure distribution, expand audience reach, and increase a film’s visibility. By focusing on getting films in front of viewers as well as funding their creation, the model addresses the gap between completing a project and achieving market presence. The fund utilizes established frameworks to help filmmakers navigate the complexities of the international media landscape.
Filmmakers from the Global South now have access to a funding model that prioritizes long-term visibility and distribution over simple production costs. This approach provides the marketing resources and research necessary to move projects beyond the festival circuit and into global markets.
