The archival collection features unreleased 1979 live recordings and studio outtakes.
Rhino will release a super-deluxe edition of the 1979 Talking Heads album Fear of Music on November 13. The 3xCD set includes a new remaster of the original record alongside alternate versions of tracks like Mind and Life During Wartime. The collection features previously unreleased recordings of two full 1979 concerts from the Berklee Performing Arts Center in Boston and the Capitol Theater in Passaic. A Blu-Ray disc provides footage from the band’s appearance on the BBC show Old Grey Whistle Test. Physical editions include a 60-page photo book with liner notes by author Will Hermes. This archival project follows the March release of Tentative Decisions: Demos & Live, which covered the band’s work from 1975 to 1977. The release launches alongside a new dedicated Talking Heads channel on SiriusXM Radio.
The inclusion of unfinished outtakes and alternate versions offers a direct look at the band's mid-career studio evolution. Analyzing these iterative track changes helps producers understand how specific sonic textures were refined before final release.
