A 1,100-square-foot New York boutique features monochromatic tones and upholstered vitrines.
Ukrainian designer Victoria Yakusha has completed a flagship boutique for jewellery brand Guzema on Wooster Street in SoHo. The 1,100-square-foot interior utilizes a minimalist, monochromatic palette dominated by warm beige. Moving away from traditional retail layouts, the long space features recessed niches on the walls and monolithic central islands. These vitrines have rounded edges and are upholstered in dove-grey suede to resemble river stones. Texture is introduced through mineral-toned plaster applied to the walls and ceiling, creating a cohesive single-surface effect. In the store window, hand-sculpted white vessels with textured skins display jewellery in bowl-like tops. Yakusha describes her approach to the project as closer to that of a sculptor than a traditional interior designer. The layout prioritizes an intimate, curated atmosphere through soft geometries and a unified colour scheme across all storage units and surfaces.
Designers can study how monochromatic palettes and unconventional display vessels shift the focus from retail transactions to intimate, sculptural experiences. The project demonstrates how material consistency across walls and furniture can create a calm, cohesive environment for high-end crafts.
